I am currently working for a company which has chosen to adopt the Spotify model for scrum. This means we got "Spotified". Our scrum teams went into a room with around 50+ people and came out with 6 squads of 9 people. Posters were hung on a wall describing each squad's mission and the product owner for a squad described the squad's mission in detail. We could choose which squad we wanted to join and had three iterations to get the teams evened out. The whole process took around three hours.

I was able to the XebiCon conference this year. XebiCon is sponsored by Xebia (www.xebia.nl). Basically, Spotify has taken scrum to another level by organizing scrum teams (squads) into autonomous teams. The teams change based on their mission and there is not an accurate count of the number of teams.
Basic vocabulary for the Spotify Scrum Model: - Squad = Scrum Team - Squads are long-lived. - Cross functional teams are virtual teams For more information check out labs.spotify.com. |
